The EU-Japan Centre aims at supporting not only business cooperation between EU and Japanese companies in the EU or in Japan, but also in foreign markets. To do so, business support can be provided through various means such as matchmaking events, seminars and direct support to EU and Japanese companies contacting our info desk (conditions apply). For this kind of support, the EU-Japan Centre works closely in cooperation with EU Member States’ trade promotion organisations under the “Team Europe” approach.

If you are:

- an EU or a Japanese company,

- with proven experience and/or a concrete project targeting a foreign market outside Japan and outside the EU (e.g. Southeast Asia, Africa, Ukraine, etc.),

Looking for:

-    Business / commercial / technology partners, buyers or investors to undertake a project in the above three regions,

the EU-Japan Centre can support you in your search of partners and information.

Companies involved in EU-Japan projects in foreign markets are often large companies. However, the EU-Japan Centre supports and encourages small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in considering such projects, with the help of the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN).

Previously, the International Joint Projects Helpdesk was called the EU-Japan Business Cooperation with ASEAN, Africa and Latin America Helpdesk. The scope of the helpdesk was opened to allow more business opportunities for EU and Japanese companies in foreign markets. Therefore, the scope is no longer restricted to the above three regions and target markets will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

WHAT TYPES OF INTERNATIONAL JOINT PROJECTS ARE COVERED?

The EU-Japan Centre aims at connecting EU and Japanese companies so that they can work together in foreign markets. These projects can take various forms such as joint ventures, consortia, merger & acquisition or contractor/supplier agreements. Such projects are often conducted in partnership with local companies and public entities and can also be referred to as trilateral business cooperation.

Business case studies

EU and Japanese companies have been working together in foreign markets for many years. For the time being, the EU-Japan Centre has identified over 40 existing EU-Japan projects in two regions: Africa and Southeast Asia. The EU-Japan Centre compiled these business case studies by monitoring EU and Japanese companies’ activities in foreign markets (e.g. news articles, press releases and other public sources) and by conducting interviews with some companies involved to gain a deeper understanding of these partnerships and identify best practices. The EU-Japan Centre continues its monitoring activities and will publish more case studies in other regions.
